IAABO Board 8 Recruitment Night



 
International Association of Approved Basketball Officials’ Region 12 representative to the executive committee, Alan Smith of Vidalia, Georgia, has been named Overall Georgia High School Official-of-the-year for 2006 by the Georgia Athletic Officials’ Association.  The award was presented at the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s annual banquet in Dalton, Georgia, on June 3, 2006.  Executive Director Brockey Brock commended Smith for his innovative training and leadership in the 2nd District, for his sustained efforts in resolving travel and game fee issues for all of Georgia’s high school sport officials, and for his contributions as a working basketball official. 

In addition to serving on the IAABO executive committee, Smith is President of Georgia State IAABO Board 200, Assistant Executive Director of Georgia Athletic Officials’ Association, Chairman of Georgia High School Association’s Partnership committee and member of GHSA Officials’ advisory committee, chairman of GHSA’s 2nd District Basketball Officials’ Association, and Interpreter/ Trainer for the Southeastern Basketball Officials’ Association IAABO Board 313. 

Smith began officiating high school basketball in 1968 and college basketball in 1978.  He has 33 years of post-season experience and has served as a basketball clinician for over 20 years.
